devSoft Inc. announces the release of IPWorks

A TCP/IP developer

Research Triangle Park, NC - March 26, 1996 - devSoft Inc. announces the release of IPWorks, a TCP/IP developer's toolkit for MS Windows, Windows 95, and Windows NT. The toolkit enables developers to build a wide range of Intranet and Internet applications using popular development environments such as Visual Basic, Visual C++, Delphi and others.

IPWorks contains simple high level programmable components, such as interfaces to Internet Mail and Usenet News, as well as powerful TCP/IP programming tools used to build generic clients and servers. All controls have simple yet powerful interfaces that shield developers from the complexity of TCP/IP programming while giving them access to a wide spectrum of Winsock features. Corporate developers will find the features they need to quickly enable their applications to participate in a TCP/IP network without steep learning curves. Internet developers will find fast components with small footprints that provide excellent performance over dialup links.

IPWorks runs on top of the industry standard Winsock API and implements standard protocols specified in Internet RFCs. The controls can be used with any Winsock 1.1 compliant TCP/IP stack. The suite contains 14 components that include VBX, 16-bit OCX, and 32-bit OCX versions with identical programmatic interfaces providing instant portability across various Windows versions.

IPWorks is available immediately for $195 Plus appropriate Shipping and Handling. Registered users may upgrade their V1.x controls for a special price and may also apply credits toward IPWorks The custom controls are free of any runtime licenses. IPWorks may be downloaded from devSoft's web site at http://www.dev-soft.com/ for free evaluation. Sample applications that demonstrate the capabilities of the controls are also available for free downloading with the package.

Below is a brief description of each control:

IPPort Control V2.0 - A new version of our popular control. It may be used to build generic TCP clients. IPPort provides low level (down to the wire) Winsock programming. Very easy to use, even for those who have never heard of TCP/IP and Winsock before.

IPDaemon Control V2.0 - TCP/IP server control. Although server programming is considered as 'black magic' by many, creating a server with IPDaemon can be as easy as a single line of code!

SMTP Control V2.0 - Internet Mail control. The interface provides various degrees of control to the programmer yet remains simple and easy to use.

POP Control V2.0 - Internet Post Office control. Easy retrieval of mail stored in Internet POP server accounts and other POP account management.

HTTP Control V2.0 - HTTP client control. Can be used to retrieve and post documents on the World Wide Web. Includes Authentication and Proxy support.

FTP Control V2.0 - FTP client control. Used to transfer files using the FTP protocol. Easy to use with a 'plug and play' interface. Allows developers to incorporate FTP file transfer capability in their applications.

NNTP Control V2.0 - USENET news access control. Can be used to retrieve and post news articles and files through an easy to use interface.

UDPPort Control V2.0 - Easy interface to UDP packet communications. Can be used to build both clients and servers. UDP is the protocol of choice where speed is very important (such as video over LAN or interactive games).

NetCode Control V2.0 - UUencode, Base64, and Quoted Printable encoding and decoding used to transfer binary data over networks. Operates on strings, files, and collections of files.

ICMP Control V2.0 - Access to the IP control layer. Can be used to build network control applications such as the popular "ping".

IPInfo Control V2.0 - A collection of DNS and other database functions. Used to resolve direct and reverse DNS queries through a fast and Windows-friendly asynchronous interface.

Rshell Control V2.0 - Allows execution of commands remotely on a UNIX machine using the remote shell mechanism. Full support for the protocol, including error streams.

Rexec Control V2.0 - Similar to Rshell, but uses the more secure rexec protocol.

Telnet Control V2.0 - A programmer's interface to building a Telnet client. Facilitates handling of Telnet commands and Telnet negotiation.
