devSoft Inc. today released a public beta of its IPWorks C++ Edition for Windows CE.

Complete Suite of Internet Programming Controls Aids Rapid Development of Mission Critical Windows CE Applications

June 10, 1998, Research Triangle Park, NC - devSoft Inc. today released a public beta of its IPWorks C++ Edition for Windows CE. The new product is based on IPWorks, devSoft's award-winning Internet programming toolkit, a tool of choice among Fortune 500 application developers. IPWorks for Windows CE is the first package for the Windows CE platform that provides a complete set of controls for developing Internet applications. A trial version is available for download at http://www.dev-soft.com/.

Windows CE is of growing interest to corporate business units such as sales force where mobility is essential. IPWorks for Windows CE provides both Internet and Corporate developers with essential tools that eliminate much of the complexity of developing connected applications for the new environment.

IPWorks contains simple high level programmable components, such as interfaces to Internet Mail and Usenet News, as well as powerful TCP/IP programming tools used to build generic clients and servers. All controls have simple yet powerful interfaces that shield developers from the complexity of TCP/IP programming while giving them access to a wide spectrum of Winsock features. Corporate developers will find the features they need to quickly enable their applications to participate in a TCP/IP network without steep learning curves. Internet developers will find fast components with small footprints that provide excellent performance over dialup links. IPWorks runs on top of the industry standard Winsock API and implements standard protocols specified in Internet RFCs.

IPWorks has been in use for more than three years at most of the Fortune 500. According to James Mercer, Senior Programmer with Nortel PLC (Northern Telecom), "At the start of our current project, a large client/server based system, one of the key decisions that had to be made was how we were going to implement TCP/IP communications. We evaluated a number of control toolkits on offer as well as considering developing an in-house control using VC++. IPWorks left the competition standing still and we haven't looked back since. No other solution provided such versatility and ease-of-use. Our project has been in first release beta for the last month and we have had no problems at all. The system runs across our international network and at present there are users in the USA, Australia and the UK. IPWorks is a superb product and well supported!"

The IP*Works for Windows CE package consists of 16 C++ classes packaged in a 32 bit DLL, and is very similar to IPWorks C++ Edition for Win32. The classes contain native implementations of popular Internet protocols such as HTTP, FTP, SMTP/POP, NNTP, Telnet, Rshell/Rexec, and much more. An ActiveX version of the toolkit is also scheduled for release during Fall 1998.

The trial version of IPWorks C++ Edition for Windows CE is available for download from http://www.dev-soft.com/. Sample applications that demonstrate the capabilities of the controls are included with the package.
