devSoft Inc. Releases Public Beta of IPWorks ASP Edition

A new rendition of the IPWorks Internet Toolkit, especially designed and optimized for Active Server Pages and Dynamic Web Applications

August 7th, 2000, Research Triangle Park, NC - devSoft Inc. today released the first public beta of IPWorks ASP Edition, a special version of IPWorks, especially designed and optimized for Active Server Page programming. This first public beta includes 30 components, the standard IPWorks components, plus higher level components such as WebUpload, WebForm, FileMailer, TraceRoute, etc. A complete array of sample ASP pages, including demonstrations on how to access Web Services such as Yahoo Stock Quotes and UPS Address Verification Tools are also included.

Initially introduced in 1995, IPWorks is actively used by most Fortune 500 and Global 2000 companies, as well as thousands of independent software developers worldwide. The product eliminates much of the complexity of developing connected applications, by providing easy-to-use programmable components that facilitate tasks such as sending email, transferring files, browsing the web, accessing directories, etc..

The programming interfaces of IPWorks ASP Edition are redesigned from the ground up with the web developer in mind. All components are property- and method-driven, and events are no longer necessary. This makes it easier for web developers to build connected, interactive, web applications with a minimum of effort. In addition, all the components are fully optimized for server environments, where performance and reliability requirements are more stringent than ever.

The sample ASP pages included in IPWorks ASP Edition show how easy it is to use the components for building web applications. Here is a partial list of the functionality included in the demos:

  • sending Internet email from ASP pages (e.g. emailing HTML form contents),
  • verifying email addresses entered in HTML forms,
  • interacting with Web Services such as UPS Online Address Verification and Shipping Cost Calculator,
  • retrieving stock quote information from services such as Yahoo,
  • uploading files on a Web server, and retrieving uploaded files on the server side,
  • reading email from POP and IMAP servers,
  • reading and posting Internet News articles,
  • executing commands remotely through rexec/rshell/telnet,
  • ...and a lot more!

The following is a complete list of the components in IPWorks ASP Edition: FileMailer, Finger, FTP, HTTP, ICMPPort, IMAP, IPInfo, IPPort, LDAP, MCast, MIME, MX, NetClock, NetCode, NetDial, NNTP, Ping, POP, RCP, Rexec, Rshell, SMTP, SNMP, SNPP, Telnet, TraceRoute, UDPPort, WebForm, WebUpload, and Whois.
